And Paul Gascoigne gathered around the campfire with his teammates on Wednesday as he resumed island life on the Italian version of I’m A Celebrity.

The weather-worn football legend, 53, appeared shirtless as he clutched a walking stick and thoughtfully pondered the group’s recent discussions.

On day 24 of the experience, Gazza was seen wearing a grey arm brace to aid his recovery while also wearing two-tone swimming trunks, revealing his eclectic selection of tattoos on his torso and arms. 

The sports icon, who famously cried after England lost to West Germany during the 1990 FIFA World Cup in Turin, appeared relaxed and content on the remote island. 

Fellow contestants Brando Giorgi, Gilles Rocca, Francesca Lodo, Valentina Persia, Roberto Ciufoli, Angela Melillo joined him around the fire pit as they unpacked the day’s events. 

He was also seen having a one-to-one discussion with actress Francesca Lodo who sported a grey tracksuit, complete with a jade green hoodie and sleeves.

Francesca furrowed her brow as she appeared deep in discussion with Paul. 

The football star had to spend a week in hospital after sustaining a shoulder injury during an endurance game on the reality show. He then returned to the island near Hondura last week to continue the series. 

Gazza couldn’t contain his emotion as he burst into tears upon his return on Thursday’s episode and said that he missed the other contestants ‘more than anything else in the world.’

Doctors have instructed him to follow specific rules in order to support his recovery. 

Honouring his comeback, the contestants congregated at the main camping area on Day 19 of the show to chat with the star. 

Prior to his reentry last week, Paul revealed he would be willing to return to the programme despite his accident. 

The former Lazio star said he’s ‘quite good’ and added that his shoulder is ‘so, so’ as the show’s presenter Ilary Blasi asked for updates on his health condition.

During another episode last week, Paul could be seen gripping his arm in pain after completing an assault course with his fellow islanders.

He appeared in good spirits later on as he joked that the doctors spoke better English than the show’s host, Ilary.

Paul also said he will go clubbing with footballer and Ilary’s husband, Francesco Totti, once the show is over.

Viewers subsequently took to Twitter to show their support and appreciation for the English contestant.

According to The Sun, producers of the series met recently to discuss whether Paul was fit enough to continue on with the show.

He was flown to hospital for emergency check-ups after sustaining his injury, forcing him to temporarily pull out of filming.

A friend of Paul told the publication: ‘He’s dislocated his shoulder. It’s such a shame as he was doing so well.

‘He’s resting while the medical team check him out. The producers are very concerned. He may be pulled out. There are insurance issues as well for them to consider.’
