She recently revealed she became so ‘thin’ she didn’t have a period for four months after her ‘obsession’ with exercise triggered dangerous weight loss.

But Maura Higgins looked on fine form on Friday as she showcased her washboard abs in a dark green crop top and matching shorts for a sizzling new Instagram snap.

The Love Island star, 30, appeared body confident in the skimpy two-piece as she promoted her fake tan range Bellamianta.

In the snap, Maura wowed as she showcased her toned physique in the gym gear, which she teamed with an oversized brown blazer.

The Irish beauty accessorised her look with a Louis Vuitton handbag and quirky sunglasses, while she also clutched onto her mobile phone.

Maura styled her brunette tresses in a half up, half down style, with the stunner sporting a golden glow thanks to her tan.

Captioning her snap, she penned: ‘Bronzer is my happy colour.’

It comes after Maura told how she feared she had gone too far with her fitness regime after concerned boyfriend Chris Taylor, 30, told her the sudden loss of her periods was ‘not good’ and her mum warned: ‘You’ve got too thin.’

In an exclusive interview, Maura explained how she was keen to rectify the problem right away, as she wants children in the future and it’s important for her to lead a healthy, balanced lifestyle.

Maura, who looked incredible for the launch of her new footwear range with EGO, told MailOnline: ‘I’m not working out as much as I was, I ended up losing too much weight.

‘I’m not doing it as much, once, twice a week max, and to be honest I’m just really good with my diet at the moment. It’s all about balance.

‘At the weekends I eat what I want and during the week I obviously try my best to eat healthier foods. But with the exercise, it’s very easy to get obsessed with it.

‘It got to a stage where it was actually affecting my periods; I lost my period for four months. Especially at my age, it’s obviously not good. I want to have kids someday so I know that’s just not a good thing to happen.

‘I remember even Chris was saying to me “Maura, that’s just not good, we need to sort this out” I was like “yeah, I know.”

‘When you have good people around you, mammy as well, she noticed, she said “you’ve got too thin” or whatever and I was like “yeah, yeah, yeah I know, I’m trying to sort it out.”‘

In June, Maura told MailOnline she started exercising in lockdown and couldn’t believe how ‘lean’ her body had become after doing fitness guru Joe Wicks’ workouts online.

But now, after listening to the advice of her loved ones, she’s taken a step back from regular and intensive exercise.

She said: ‘I eased off the exercise and upped my calories and stuff. It’s good to have people around you that are not afraid to say these things to you. It’s so important. I’m feeling so much better.’

Excessive weight loss can cause periods to stop, and restricting the amount of calories you eat prevents the production of hormones needed for ovulation.
